Vintage BETSY ROSS and the FLAG Commemorative PLATE Patriotic Founders

Description: Waiting for your purchase is this vintage plate, commemorating BETSY ROSS AND THE FLAG. There is no maker's mark on the plate, so I am not certain, but I believe it was made by HOMER LAUGHLIN. It may have been made by Laughlin and decorated elsewhere. The plate is made of a quality porcelain type material. A wide border in an old world lacy floral pattern goes around the side of the plate. In the center is a colored (polychrome) scene of Betsy Ross with the American Flag she is supposed to have crafted. Across the room George Washington, Ben Franklin, and another man watch her progress. At the bottom of the scene, in black lettering, it says "Betsy Ross and the Flag". This is a nice piece of historical pottery to add to your collection. It is in almost excellent condition, but I do want to mention what appears to be a scratch on the left side of the colored area, by George's chair. I thought it was when I first looked, but upon closer inspection I found the "scratch" to be under the glaze. What it is is a tear in the decal that was used for the center area and was probably done when decorated. There are a couple other tiny spots just like this, but they are also under glaze. You cannot feel a scratch with your finger, and the colored area does not flake off. It is still a really great old plate, and these tiny flaws don't detract and aren't noticeable unless you are up very close to the design.
