Description: Waiting for your purchase is this wonderful old bean pot from RRP, the ROBINSON, RANSBOTTOM POTTERY. RRP was located in Roseville, Ohio, so this has caused confusion over the years because people think this is "Roseville" pottery. It is not. But, the RRP was just as much a manufacturer of high quality products as was Roseville. But, RRP's products were more mundane. They were made for daily use, and most of them were stoneware. The company was in business for 105 years, from 1900 - 2005, so they must have been doing something right! The pottery closed in 2005, so their items are becoming more and more collectible.
This is a super beanpot. It has a matching lid and applied handle. It reminds me of ice cream. The bottom looks like creamy vanilla ice cream, while the top and lid look like the hot fudge sauce on top of a sundae. The top of the lid is unglazed and shows the original clay material. Since the unglazed area is unprotected, it has suffered some small minor chipping just around the top edge over the years, nothing major, and nothing that detracts from the item. In this case, the tiny chips give the piece great character and age. The main body of the pot has no chips.
The person from whom I obtained this item was in her 50's, and she said the pot had been in her family for many, many years. What also makes this pot special is that it still has its original lid. So often, these types of pots are missing their lids.
One could probably still cook baked beans in the pot, but it would also make a great collectible for the vintage kitchen collector--------could be used as a canister for storage. My grandmother used to keep old fashioned stick candy in a jar similar to this. Could also be used as a cookie jar. The full maker's mark is stamped on the bottom of the pot.
The pot holds approx. 6 cups.
Measurement: approx. 6.5 inches tall (with lid) -- the widest part of the pot is about 6 inches across--------the mouth of the jar is 5 inches
Condition: WONDERFUL VINTAGE CONDITION--only a few tiny chipped areas around the unglazed top of the lid, some crazing throughout the piece (most evident on the white/cream area as seen in the photo)
