Vintage DARK GREEN Scroll POTTERY PLANTER Mid Century MCM Hull? McCoy? Made in USA

Description: Waiting for your purchase is a lovely dark green pottery planter. It is oval shaped and the bowl rests on a decorated pedestal foot. The planter is dark green in color, almost black in some places. If you look very closely, you will find a maker's mark along the area where the bowl of the planter connects to the pedestal. The mark has the numbers "19-4 USA". The third number is impossible to read as it is all filled in with glaze. I am guessing it is either a 3 or a 5, probably the latter. if it is a date. The shape of the planter is a bit elaborate, but the glaze color is right for 1950's mid-century pottery. The oval bowl is decorated with scrolls and has elongated panels that appear almost like tongues. The foot is as decorated as the bowl. I am going to take a very wild guess and say this could possibly be Hull or MCCoy, but I cannot be sure. So many potteries were going during that era, and many did not use an incised or stamped mark, choosing instead to use paper stickers, most of which are long gone, leaving us to wonder who were the makers. Many of the potteries also used a USA mark. In any case, great old items like this one belong in use or collections. The old-time potters were driven out of business when cheaper oriental imports came into the country, especially after World War II. Add this great old beauty to your planter collection now.

Measurement: planter measures a little over 7 inches long and 5 inches wide--it stands 4 inches tall

Condition: great vintage condition---has minor mineral buildup around inner rim area from long use---not bad at all--has rough area on rim in one spot--it is a chip, but not a NEW one--this one is UNDER THE glaze, so it was done by the maker before the piece was fired. It is a manufacturing flaw, but it isn't bad and I didn't even notice it at first until I ran my hands over the item.
